Monument, Colorado is a fast growing, family-oriented, historic small town with some of the best schools in the state. It is located at the base of the Rampart Range, which is the eastern front range of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. It is bordered by Castle Rock to the north, Colorado Springs and the United States Air Force Academy to the south, rolling plains to the east, and Pike National Forest and Monument Creek to the west. It was named after this same mountain stream and Monument Rock (also found in the west) in the year 1882, but its rich history starts even earlier than that.
Monument was first settled as a stop along the Rio Grande Railroad in 1872. It was incorporated as a town in 1879 by prominent settler Henry Limbach and referred to as “Henry’s Station.” However, three years later the name was changed to Monument. Due to the railroad, people started moving to the area and opened small businesses, creating a small, close knit community in the process. This is still the case today with just over 6,000 residents now calling this friendly, charming, upscale rural town home.
